More Life Retreat: A Celebration of Community, Healing and Abundance through Love

The More Life Retreat is birthed through years of Black women cultivating sisterhood amongst varying life experiences and representing multiple organizations to combat infant mortality and poor maternal health care. We continue this work through circles, individual and group healthcare, mental health services, and creating a multitude of spaces to reconnect to the wisdom of ancient Africa, share our stories, teach and learn together.

Our retreat is not just an event; it's a love offering to our ancestors, those who paved the way for us, our children, each other, and ourselves. For years, Black women have forged deep bonds and represented various organizations in the fight against infant mortality and inadequate maternal healthcare. We continue this essential work through diverse avenues—circles of support, individual and group healthcare, mental health services, and the creation of spaces that reconnect us to the ancient wisdom of Africa, where we share our stories, teach, and learn together.

The recently released film, "More Life" (2023), captures the essence of our ongoing programming in Akron, Ohio. It's a love story, a celebration of Black women's full humanity, centered around the themes of Black maternal health and infant vitality. In a world marred by racism and its consequential disparities, our mission is clear: to amplify Black women's voices, stories, lives, and love.
